And Lord, Please Bless the U.S.A…

"National Day of Prayer"
is recognized in Downtown Marianna
By Sid Riley
A group of approximately forty local citizens met and prayed for a few moments on Thursday in front of the Marianna City Hall. They had come to pray for our leaders and our nation, in recognition of the "National Day of Prayer" which has been observed for the past fifty seven years.
This observance was stressed by the Bush Administration, and President Bush always participated in the observance. However, the Obama Administration did not hold any ceremonies at the capitol this year. A prayer ceremony was held at many state capitols across the nation. In Tallahassee there was a group who met and prayed on the Capitol steps, with the Lt. Governor in attendance.
Locally, the prayers were conducted from 12:20 PM until 12:40, with several local clergy leading the group. "Lord, bless our struggling nation, bless our President, our legislative leaders, and our judges as they direct and shape our nation," was the common theme of the prayers.
As a final step, the group joined hands and said the Lord’s Prayer in unison.
