Friends of Troy Tidwell Establish Legal Defense Fund

Donations accepted at 1st Capital Bank

A legal defense fund has been set up at 1st Capital Bank in Marianna to help offset legal fees incurred by Troy Tidwell. Tidwell is the only individual named in a lawsuit against four state agencies filed by four former residents of Dozier School for Boys from the 1950’s for alleged abuse.
Tidwell has denied the allegations made against him in the lawsuit. Several residents of Jackson County have expressed interest in contributing to a defense fund for Tidwell. Troy Tidwell retired from Dozier School in 1982 after 39 years of service there. During those years tribute was paid to him by the school’s newspaper, not only for the love, concern and fairness he displayed to the many boys in his care, but to his own family as well.

Many times former Dozier students have come back to visit Tidwell in his home with their families, thanking him for all he did to help them become better citizens and succeed in life. On September 3, 2008, Tidwell was presented the Paul Harris Fellow award from the Marianna Rotary Club for demonstrating through the years the Rotary motto, “Service above Self.”

Contributions to Troy Tidwell’s Legal Defense Fund may be made at 1st Capital Bank, 4701 Highway 90, Marianna, FL 32447.
