Main Street Marianna Membership Drive is Underway

Kick-Off Party scheduled for August 20
By Sid Riley

Chuck Hudson, Membership Chairman, and Charlotte Brunner, Director of Main Street Marianna has announced the August 1 beginning of a membership drive for her organization. A ‘Kickoff Party’ will be held at Bistro Palms Restaurant on August 20, at 5:00 PM for this drive. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served and memberships will be explained.

The objectives of this organization are to enhance economic development, increase public involvement in downtown activities, encourage downtown revitalization, and promotion of community activities. It also provides a forum for discussion and planning in development of programs and goals.

Some of the accomplishments since Marianna became part of the Main Street program in 1992 are updated building facades, sidewalk improvements, landscaping, new Christmas decorations, and even the new clock and median near the post office.

Projects for next year include: Development of Madison Street Park, Installation of underground utilities in parts of downtown near Court House, including landscaping and street lighting, feasibility study for renovation of historic First Bank building, application for grants for more efficient downtown lighting.

Pauline Turner, always a great supporter of downtown revitalization, led the campaign by a generous $250 donation. For more information contact Charlotte Brunner at 482-2786.
