The Times Pays a Special Tribute to Law Enforcement in Jackson County

Five weeks of special tribute to our local protectors. By Sid Riley

Beginning with this issue of the Jackson County Times, we will be recognizing the service and devotion to duty provided to the citizens of Jackson County by our local police organizations. The five week tribute will cumulate in the middle of May with Police Appreciation Week.

On page A2 of this paper we begin this tribute by devoting the page to the Graceville City Police force under the command of Chief Elton Horton. We feature professional photographs of each member of the organization, and a special story about the Graceville Police, including some of their history, accomplishments, and special attributes.

Next week we will feature Chief William Watford and his crew which comprise the Cottondale City Police Force. Again photos and unit history will be displayed. Then in the following week’s issue, Sneads will be featured under the direction of Chief Bert McAlpin. Then it will be on to Marianna Police Department and their fearless leader, Chief Hayes Baggett.

The final week of the five week series will be dedicated to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. The entire force will be photographed, along with our High Sheriff, Lou Roberts. Tales from the rich history of this fine organization will be presented, along with the photos.

We appreciate all of the fine sponsors who have expressed their ongoing support of our police in Jackson County, and who advertised in our paper to help make this special tribute of recognition possible.

We would also like to thank Linda Hatcher of Classic Photography for donating her time to take all of the photographs for this special section.
