Meet: Charlotte Gardner

Charlotte Gardner, who currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the Jackson County School Board, would like to continue her service to the children and parents of Jackson County School Board District 5. She is asking District 5 voters to allow her to serve a second term as Board Member. Gardner states, “Serving the citizens of District 5 has been an honor and a privilege.”

Charlotte Gardner has been serving the children of Jackson County for 37 years. She has worked 33 years in various teaching and administrative positions in the school campus setting, and 4 years as the current District 5 Board of Education Member. She possesses a strong educational and instructional background. Charlotte’s teaching and administrative responsibilities as an educator include special area teacher, coach, classroom teacher, curriculum resource teacher, guidance counselor, and adjunct professor. Mrs. Gardner was also selected as Jackson County “Teacher of the Year” in 1999. Charlotte was elected the District 5 School Board Member in November of 2006. She is committed to the continued pursuit of excellence on all levels, academics, athletics, and extra curricular activities.

Charlotte Gardner is a native of Jackson County. She earned her high school diploma from Cottondale High School. She then obtained her A.A. degree from Chipola Junior College, and her under-graduate and Masters Degree from the University of West Florida. Post graduate and career continuing education includes earning enough education credits to become a Certified Board Member of the Florida School Boards Association, and a Certified Master Board Member of the Florida School Board Association. Mrs. Gardner also serves on the Florida School Board of Directors for Region 4, and is a graduate of the 2009 Leadership Jackson County Civic Leadership Program.

Charlotte Gardner also demonstrates community leadership through her liaison position between the Jackson County School Board and the Board of Transportation for Disadvantage, the Parent Advisory Council of Title I, and the Policy Council for Jackson County School Board Head Start Programs. Mrs. Gardner also involves herself in several community organizations.

Charlotte is a committed full-time, available, involved School Board Member. She has and will continue to be actively involved in the eight schools, which are located in Jackson County School Board District 5. Mrs. Gardner believes that another set of hands can make a difference in the school setting. During her past term as School Board Member for District 5, she has done everything from washing tables to substitute teaching, to bus duty, in the District 5 schools she represents. Charlotte is knowledgeableabout the laws and issues with which the School Board Members must contend. Charlotte Gardner is a voice for all children!

Charlotte is married to Bill Gardner, a retired educator and coach. They have two children and four grandchildren. Bill and Charlotte are active members of the First Methodist Church of Marianna.

Gardner said, “Over the past four years, I have been committed to student achievement and success. It has been a pleasure to serve you as a full-time, hands-on board member. It has been a privilege to be associated with the students, faculty, staff, and community members throughout Jackson County. I have the time, knowledge, experience, and most of all determination to be an advocate for all the children in the Jackson County School System. It would be an honor to continue to serve my fellow citizens.”
