Celebrate Yesteryear This Saturday at Living Heritage Day, Co-Sponsored by TDC

By Bo McMullian
The pioneer and frontier spirit will come to life once again this Saturday at the 15th Annual Living Heritage Day. It’s held each year at Renaissance Park, located between Greenwood and Marianna near the intersection of Sylvania Plantation and Hartsfield roads. Just like in the old days—the really old days—folks will be cane grinding and making syrup, lye soap, hog cooking and processing, horseback riding, broom making, down home cooking and blacksmithing. The annual event has attracted up to 1000 people in recent years, according to organizer Danny Sylvester of the Pebble Hill community south of Marianna. They include tourists, thanks to the efforts of the Jackson County Tourist Development Council, a co-sponsor along with the Buffalo Soldiers and New North Florida Coop.
