Missing Pilot Found in Chattahoochee

Missing Indiana man Marcus Schrenker has been found in Chattahoochee following a massive multi-state search.

Schrenker disappeared two days ago as his small plane flew south over Alabama. He radioed from somewhere north of Birmingham that his windshield had imploded and he was cut and bleeding badly.

The U.S. Air Force scrambled jets to intercept the plane but the military pilots discovered it flying south near Birmingham with the door open and no one inside. They followed it until it crashed into a wooded area in Santa Rosa County.

It was then disclosed that Shrenker had appeared in Childersburg, Alabama, a small community southeast of Birmingham, claiming that he was the victim of a canoe accident. He checked into a local hotel there using cash but then disappeared.

Authorities now speculate he may have parachuted from his own plane as part of a bizarre plan to disappear. He was under investigation on investment related issues.

Authorities in Gadsden County announced at around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night that he had been arrested in Chattahoochee after slitting his wrists at a campground there. He has been taken to a hospital for treatment.
