Commission Votes To Continue 1Cent Sales Tax

Commissioners Approve another fifteen years for special tax
By Sid Riley
At Tuesday’s meeting of the Jackson County Board of Commissioners a public hearing on the reenactment of the one cent small county sales surtax was offered for public discussion. There was none. Then the commissioners voted unanimously to reenact the tax.
This optional tax generates funds which are earmarked for use in paving of new roads in the county. The tax was originated on June 1, 1995, and will expire May 31 of this year. The action taken by the board will now continue this tax for another fifteen years.
