Property Owners Association presents budget increase to County Commissioners
By Sid Riley
Late Tuesday afternoon the County Commission meeting room filled to capacity with property owners and residents of Compass Lake in the Hills. It was their moment of taxation truth, since the management group of the special taxing unit formed by that development was presenting their new budget proposal to the County Commissioners who are in the workshop phase of budget preparation for the 2009-2010 budget year.
The POA had proposed an increased tax levy per lot of $150, an increase from the historical $135 assessment which has existed for several years. Many of those there came to voice disagreement with the management group’s budget plans and required increase.
In the end it was the naysayers who prevailed. After much discussion the Commission voted to deny the request and instructed the POA representatives to rework their budget plan based on the old, $135 assessment.
