Don’t Be A “Penny Pincher”

Needy Grade School Students Need Your Change
By Sid Riley

Canisters are in place at retail stores in every community in Jackson County for the “Pennies For Pencils” fund which is being promoted by the Jackson County Times. When you see the colorful plastic canister with the sad looking, blonde headed boy on the lid, please take time to drop in some change for this very worthwhile cause.

With more and more local families struggling with their budgets in the face if ever increasing costs, lay-offs, and rising unemployment, this year there will be even more children than normal starting the school year without the supplies they need. Your pennies can buy pencils, paper, notebooks, back packs, and other needed items for them as they start the school year in September. If you are a business operator, we hope you will go a step further and become a community or county wide sponsor for the fund.

The monies raised in each community will be used to purchase supplies for the grade school which serves that town. For example, the money donated in Sneads will be used to help students at the Sneads Elementary School, while the money donated in Graceville will be used to help students at Graceville Elementary. So give generously ….your change is needed by a child in your town.
