God Bless The 144th !

Troops hold deployment ceremony at local national guard armory.
By Sid Riley

On Sunday morning a large crowd filled the National Guard Armory near Marianna in order to wish “God Speed and Safe Return” to the 144th Transportation Company as it prepares for deployment to the Middle East. The crowd which bordered the central area of the main room of the armory consisted of loving family members, many friends, concerned citizens, and media…..all gathered to with our local patriots a safe and productive deployment. In the middle of the room were the proud members of the 144th Transportation Company, standing at “parade rest” while an assortment of speakers addressed the crowd.

1st Lt. Scott Peterson has been the officer in charge of training for the unit, and he feels they are now ready for any task which might be set before them. Many in the crowd were tearful, as the ceremony brought home the realization that the departure of their loved family member was about to occur.

The unit departs Tallahassee on Wednesday for a short period of advanced training in the U.S. before departing for the Middle East. We at the Jackson County Times wish them a successful deployment and a safe return. Jackson County can be proud of these heroes who are serving us all.
