Play Tag Now or You Will Be “It”!

Existing fees will only be available for a few more days, then citizens can expect significantly higher costs.
By Sid Riley
One of the primary tools used by the Crist administration in meeting the challenges created by revenue declines and a huge budget shortfall was to create a new schedule of fees for all licenses, registrations, car tags, court actions, foreclosures, lien filings, and evictions. Some of these new costs are two or three times higher than the previous rates. Many distraught citizens feel this is actually another form of taxation from the State government.
Tax Collector Sherry Brown wants Jackson County citizens to know that if your birthday is between now and November 30, you can renew in advance this week as long as it is before September 1, and avoid the higher costs. Additionally, you can renew for two years instead of one, and avoid the higher rates for two years.
So, if your birthday is in August, September, October, or November, NOW IS THE TIME to renew! You must renew before September 1. If you have any questions, call the Tax Collectors Offices at: 482-9653 (Marianna), 263-3218 (Graceville), or 593-6797 (Sneads).
