Public Meeting Scheduled to Address Spring Creek Issues

Public input is encouraged…Plan to attend.

By Sid Riley

Chuck Hatcher, Jackson County Director of Parks and Recreation, has announced the scheduling of a public meeting to be held next Tuesday, March 16, at Citizens Lodge at 7:00 PM. The purpose of this meeting is to give the public an opportunity to express concerns, opinions, and recommendations relating to the Spring Creek ordinance and other issues relating to this waterway.

The existing ordinance prohibits those entering Spring Creek from any public landing from bringing any form of disposable container to the waterway. Accumulation of unsightly debris discarded by users of the waterway has been a growing and continual problem as the volume of rafters, canoeist, and tubers has increased. Additionally, the county is evaluating charging a small fee for entry into the creek via the new Spring Creek Park and boardwalk.

If you have any interest in the administration and protection of this local treasure and attraction, please plan to attend.
