ST. Patrick’s Day Festival Draws Crowd in Marianna

Saturday event was well attended

By Sid Riley

Things were “hoppin” in downtown Marianna Saturday afternoon and evening as locals turned out to enjoy a day of Irish flavored entertainment. It was the second annual Marianna Saint Patty’s Day Festival, sponsored by Main Street Marianna. Great music which was provided by the band, Twenty on Red, great food provided by numerous vendors, great shopping at various crafts booths, and of course….great beer served to those who wished to follow the great Irish tradition of enjoying an occasional brew.

Perhaps the highlight of the event was the “Great Hospital Bed Race”, which involves a four man crew pushing a slightly modified hospital bed down a course on Madison Street, with a patient desperately hanging on for his/her life. Once again, it was the united teamwork and planning of the Marianna Fire Department team who ended as victors in the contest. They handily beat back the valiant efforts of the team from the Chipola Area Board of Realtors, and the Zaxby’s team, to earn the first place trophy. The Realtors team won the “Most Outrageous” award, and the Zaxby’s team won the “Team Spirit” award.

A good time was had by all as Marianna kept this Irish tradition alive and well.
