They “Jazzed It Up” in Downtown Marianna

Despite marginal weather, the event drew a large crowd.

Marianna’s First Jazzy Day festival is now history. City officials have formally deemed the event a “success” and the continuation of the annual event is assured. Caledonia Street from the Stone Hotel up to Highway 90 was full of vendor booths and people for the entire afternoon. It is estimated that approximately 1000 people attended during the afternoon. Baked goods, corn on the cob, seafood, wine tasting, and many other filling and fulfilling items were sold to the assembled crowd. Several booths offered art renderings, a wide selection of prints, and one booth did a great business selling beautiful orchids. Meanwhile, from the deck of “Bistro Palms Restaurant” jazz music filled the air and provided a festival atmosphere for the event.

Unique in theme, unique in location, and unique in purpose, the results of the event demonstrated an ability to draw a welcome crowd, to create a fun-filled afternoon for attendees, and a worthwhile fund raiser for the future creation of a historical museum in downtown Marianna. Organizers estimate that approximately $1500 was created for the museum project fund. Proof again that Jackson County’s people always enjoy a chance to party!
