“The Chapel at Chipola” Is Dedicated

Gift to college campus from Creshull Harrison Family

By Sid Riley

A beautiful, new chapel building now sits serenely next to the School Library on Indian Circle Drive on the Chipola campus. It is there because of the magnanimous generosity of the Creshull Harrison family. It was given freely, in the spirit of a devout Christian family as testified in the formal dedication ceremony which was held at the site on Tuesday morning.

In typical humility, Creshull Harrison, Jr., former owner and operator of Rahal-Miller Chevrolet Buick Cadillac, and son of the firm’s founder, Creshull Harrison, Sr., requested that the new chapel facility be officially named “The Chapel at Chipola”, and not “The Harrison Chapel,” or “The Harrison Building”. “This facility is for the work of the Lord, and our family was only an instrument of its creation. It should be named for the Lord,” Mr. Harrison explained. He also emphasized the role that his wife and the rest of the family had played in the decision to donate the facility to Chipola.

“This new chapel will be here for many future generations of students to use and enjoy,” stated Chipola President, Gene Prough, as he made opening remarks to the assembled crowd. “The college is deeply appreciative for this wonderful gift from the Harrison family.”

Many pastors from area churches were in attendance. The opening prayer and comments were made by Pastor Shannon Eads of the First Baptist Church in Marianna, and the formal dedication was delivered by Dave Barkakow, Associate Pastor of the First Methodist Church in Marianna. They also proclaimed the continuing support of their churches to the future of this Chapel on the Chipola Campus.
