FCAT Scores For County Schools Are Here!!

FCAT Scores for Jackson County Schools are here….at least part of the data has been produced and distributed. The math and reading scores are available on a student basis, and on a school by school basis. However, the actual school comparative grading is not complete.

Several of the major school systems in the state have entered formal complaints on the grading processes which were used on parts of the testing by the contracted grading provider. As a result the final scoring has been delayed while independent auditors review the processes and results.

Meanwhile, the data at hand does enable Superintendent Lee Miller and his staff to identify areas of improvement and areas of need within each school. They are currently busy working with the staffs of each school in developing needed remedial programs where needed in a continuing improvement process. No one is sure when the actual school grading will be completed.

The charts below exhibit some of the data which has been made available to the school system. Due to space limitations, we are only demonstrating the results for the “Grade 10” group, although similar data is available for grades 3 through 9. Many of the grade groups realized significant improvements this year, while others remained near previous performance levels.

Superintendent Miller stated that the overall results appear to be near what they were last year, with gains in some areas and declines in others. In general, it appears that overall county scoring was slightly improved, and remained significantly ahead of state averages.
