County Grants Natural Gas Franchise to City of Marianna

At Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Jackson County Board of Commissioners Marianna City Manager, Jim Dean, made a formal request on behalf of the City asking the County to grant a natural gas franchise to the City which would allow the city to run a natural gas line extension across unincorporated land to provide a needed supply of natural gas to Green Circle Bio Energy which is located south of Cottondale on Highway 231.

At present, the company is forced to use propane for a step in the disposal of waste materials. The addition of this new gas service will significantly improve the cost of this process for the plant.

Dean stated that there will also be a study conducted to determine the feasibility of running a gas extension to the I-10/Hwy. 71 interchange area, as well as several other out of city subdivisions.

The panel unanimously approved the request.
