At Monday’s meeting of the Marianna City Commission, the panel approved the new budgets for the city and for the health and rehabilitation center. Both budgets were balanced with no requirement for increased taxation. However, for private pay clients at the Health and Rehab Center, fees were raised from $189 per day to $204 per day for a room. The center yielded the city a profit of approximately $500,000 for last year.
Included in both budgets were raises for employees. The raises amounted to a 3% increase with a $1000/ yr. minimum raise for employees earning less than $30,000 per year, and 2% for those earning over $30,000, with 1% of this raise guaranteed and the other 1% subject to an acceptable performance review.
The new budget provides for adding automatic meter reading systems for many of the 1400 natural gas customers in Marianna. It also included two new police vehicles, upgrade of the police communication systems, and a new car for Municipal Development.
