Water / Road Project Update Given At Commission Meeting

Eight more months of road misery for Marianna residents
At Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Marianna City Commission, the representative for Hatch Mott McDonald the supervising engineering firm for the water-sewer-and road replacement projects which are underway throughout the city, gave an update report to the Commission. He stated that the project is now some 60 days behind schedule, with another four months of work left before completion of Phase One of the project, which would be around December 1. However, they were very positive about the quality of the work being performed.

By the terms of the contract, the company must pay a $1,000 per day penalty for each day beyond the contract limit. However, the Commission agreed that they had rather have a firm which is doing quality workmanship than have one which rushes, finishes ahead of schedule, and then the city has to rework the road within a few years.

During the meeting the Commission approved Phase Two of the project, which includes another nine roads and an additional four months of work. This would make the final completion date around April 1, 2011.
