Patriots Hold First-Ever Local Veterans Day Ceremony

A small crowd of patriots and participants gathered for the first annual Veterans Day wreath-laying ceremony at the Jackson county courthouse last Thursday, Nov. 11.
A similar ceremony is held at the Four Wars Monument, or WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam each year on Memorial Day in honor of America’s fallen heroes. But this is the first year it’s been expanded to Veterans Day in November, according to Marianna VFW Commander Bill Sellers.
The wreath was laid in front of the monument by Korean War veteran Dylan Kilpatrick, 88, of Sneads and past VFW Commander Ernie McNeill. Kilpatrick got the Four Wars Monument erected on the northwest courthouse lawn in 2003. The monument lists the names of soldiers from Jackson County killed in WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam.
