Grand Ridge Mayor Chris Wright removed from Office

Times staff report

New Florida Gov. Rick Scott isn't wasting any time "getting to work," as his campaign slogan went. On Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, the day after he was sworn in, Scott officially removed from office Grand Ridge Mayor Chris Wright.

Wright had been suspended from office since April 16, 2010, by order of former Gov. Charlie Crist. On April 14, Wright had been arrested after the investigation of an old grand theft auto case.

Wright pled no contest to the charge last October and was given three years probation. According to the governor's order, the governor's office considers the nolo contendere plea to be "deemed" a conviction. Auto theft is a third degree felony, punishable by up to five years in prison.
