A rabid coon has been found in our area. Last Tuesday the Jackson County Health Department picked up the dead raccoon near Campbellton. Tests revealed the animal was indeed infected with rabies.
The coon had fought with two dogs at a home on Rambo Road, and was killed by the dogs in the fight. These dogs are now under quarantine and are being closely monitored for possible infection.
The Health Department urges all residents to be aware of this danger, and to report any unusual actions of wild animals. They can be reached at 482-9227.
